If a monk abandons lust for the property of form... for the property of feeling... for the property of perception... for the property of fabrications... for the property of consciousness, then owing to the abandoning of lust, the support is cut off, and consciousness is unestablished.

Consciousness, thus unestablished, not growing, not performing any function, is liberated.

Liberated, it stays firm.

Owing to its staying firm, it is contented.

Owing to its contentment, it is not agitated.

Not agitated, he is totally unbound right within himself. He understands: 'Birth is ended, the spiritual life fulfilled, the task done. There is nothing further for this world.'

(...) Rūpadhātuyā ce bhikkhave, ...vedanādhātuyā ce bhikkhave...saññādhātuyā ce bhikkhave ... saṃkhāradhātuyā ce bhikkhave ...Viññāṇadhātuyā ce bhikkhave, bhikkhunā rāgo pahīno hoti. Rāgassa pahānā vocchijjatārammaṇaṃ, patiṭṭhā viññāṇassa na hoti, tadappatiṭṭaṭhitaṃ viññāṇaṃ avirūḷhaṃ anabhi saṅkhacca vimuttaṃ, vimuttattā ṭhitaṃ ṭhitattā santusitaṃ, santusitattā na paritassati aparitassaṃ paccattaṃ yeva parinibbāyati. 'Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṃ brahmacariyaṃ, kataṃ karaṇīyaṃ, nāparaṃ itthattāyā'ti pajānātīti.
